Fighting Bad breath
Poor Oral Hygiene, Diet Among Possible Reasons For Bad Breath.
In a consumer-focused article, CNN (11/28, LaMotte) discusses causes of bad breath and possible solutions. Poor oral hygiene is “a leading cause of bad breath,” says CNN, and “the good news is that you can easily fix this type of bad breath by brushing your teeth with fluoride toothpaste twice a day and flossing regularly.” Additional factors may contribute to bad breath, including breath-offending foods, dry mouth, smoking and tobacco, and medical conditions. “If you tell your dentist about your persistent problem, he or she may be able to help pinpoint the cause,” CNN adds.
Dentists can refer patients to MouthHealthy.org, ADA’s consumer website, for information on bad breath causes and solutions.
The ADA provides a complete list of toothpastes with the ADA Seal of Acceptance, including some with bad breath control attributes. In addition, ClōSYS Alcohol-Free Oral Health Rinse (unflavored & gentle mint) and TheraBreath Fresh Breath Oral Rinse (Mild Mint and Invigorating Icy Mint) have earned the ADA Seal for helping to reduce bad breath.
