Dental uses for Xylitol

Patients have commented to us recently about articles they have read regarding the natural sweetener Xylitol. Xylitol is a sugar alcohol sweetener  that has 40% less calories than sugar making it a popular substitute. Xylitol has also been shown to fight Strep Mutans which is the primary bacteria that causes tooth decay. This product can be found in gum, mints, toothpastes, mouthwashes and other dental products and has been confirmed safe by numerous agencies.

One important note would be for dog owners. Xylitol is poison to dogs so dog owners should take great care to keep products away for their pets.
